I did a full exterior detail on the Cruze Sunday. The issue wasn’t so much road grime but dirt and pollen. In case you don’t remember, this is what it looked like a few weeks after its last wash.
Pollen season sucks, but at least most of it washed off with the pressure washer. However, a thin layer of pollen clung to it, as did an obscene amount of dirt and mud from all the rain we had over the past few months.
Yeaaaaaaah, it needed a bath, what with the entire exterior being covered in a fine silt. Fortunately the amazing color Geoff, errr, CRUZE! Awesomeaustin, I will get even one day. Anywho - the dynamic color makes washing it very rewarding.
First I gave it a very thorough wash, using the last of my car wash liquid. I guess I am going to have to hold off on any future washes until I can get some more.
I loved seeing the reddish orange color come into its own out from under the layers of dirt and grime. I didn’t stop there though. I did a full polish and wax for the first time in a while, which really helped hide the myriad imperfections a cheap car picks up in a hard life outside.
This (blurry) picture was taken after the wash and wax. Every single one of those white dots is a deep stone chip cut down to the primer. Never EVER drive behind a dump truck. Ever.
I have no idea why I couldn’t get the camera to focus, but it seems to be picky with the lighting. At any rate, it looks great.
I have such a busy schedule that I had to do the interior last week to have any hope of getting out the buffer, so have another blurry photo of the interior. I still think the light brown contrast trim makes for one good looking interior.
Why can’t I focus? This is a Cruze, silly. Not a Ford.
Oh, have I never mentioned the lights? Yeah, they change colors and don’t obscure vision at night. I got a proper fuse adapter instead of the cigarette lighter plug most people use, for tidiness of course.
That’s about it. Not quite a Svend level clean since I was time and material limited. For instance, I never bother with the wheel wells on account of the mud and I was out of Armor All.

I miss having a clean car. Kids will do that.

Would you like a TEAM OPPOSITELOCK sticker? Even if you’re not folding, you can still represent. I’d love to send you one.

Yes, kids are very messy. At least I know that this particularly muddy parking space I battle with can’t hold a candle to the destruction a toddler can bestow upon an interior.

I will send you an email soon if I can think of anywhere I’d put it. I’ve got your email address already from that one time. Still got that copy of the painting hung up in the classroom?

what was the email address again? I need mine!

I have the same sticker on both my cars.

That is fine news! Gotta represent. I really need to get one for my own car.

You also a graduate?

Not yet, but it is a great school for an a rchitecture major.

Current or perspective student?

I just have the plate frames. Sadly my new state doesn’t have GT specialized plates

It’s not so much the dirt and debris from them as the lack of time.

I had a GT plate in TX, haven’t gotten around to getting one here in SC.

Oh I start late summer term but that’s online now. I’ll be living on campus soon though. Fortunately, I already know I am crazy enough to not only tolerate but enjoy architecture; most people realize how hard and time consuming it is only after first year. I’m excited.
I am also somewhat familiar with the campus from helping out my brother there and other wanderings.

That’s cool, I knew a few people in Architecture , it’s a lot of work. I got out in December 2012 with a BS in ChBE. I lived on campus all my 4.5 years, I was in Glenn, then ULC, then NAS, and then the fraternity house.

Looks really good. Yes a clean car is a happy car, but also a happy owner.

Yes, it is very cathartic. Even better, it is nice to have something under your control in these difficult times. I just feel more calm and in control when my car is clean.
I wish I could have been more thorough but I was materials limited. On the plus side, slippery plastic hubcaps are really easy to clean.

Interesting. I think my car rolled off the assembly line just around that same time.
You can also attest then that architecture is not for the faint of heart or those adverse to all nighters. ChBe, Chemical and Biomolecular engineering? Dang.

Just a lowly BSME here, Got out Dec ‘13. Caterpillar, Yamaha, Polaris since then

Nice! There are a lot of good jobs in that field, but just not my forte. It's a great school for sure.

Yeah, it was Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Neither are for the faint of heart.

It’s great for getting out the house, better than sitting doing nothing and you see the benefit and rewards for your time.

I haven’t printed it yet. I got sidetracked and then the difficulties began. I predict that lacking an effective vaccine, there will be no public schools happening next year in the traditional sense, so it may be another year before I am back in my classroom again.

Oh, I see. If you ever do get it hung , send me a photo of it in place. Was the picture I provided high enough resolution? I still don’t actually have access to it or a large enough scanner, but perhaps I could try some sort of phone camera scanner app if need be.
It’s crazy that you may not see your classroom again for so long. That also leaves the question of how many kids are going to be fed without free school lunches. Are there programs out there for this issue?

The feedings are still going on and widely and I fully expect them to continue next year.
I’m glad that you mentioned the excellent painting and given our other recent — and meaningful — dialogue, I’m glad to make that connection.
I’m off now to do some actual work for my actual job.

Ah have fun with that. I’m always happy to discuss controversial subjects with someone as respectful and thoughtful as you.

I accept that as a very high compliment. Thank you. I want to be the person that you describe. I come up short sometimes, but that is the desire of my heart.
